The „Orientierungsstufe“ covers the 5th class level. It is therefore the pivotal point between the “Grundschule” (primary school) and the three types of secondary school. ObjectiveDuring an observation and support period of one year, children’s personal skills, interests and affinities can be well identified. This allows parents and teachers to make the decision about the most suitable type of secondary school for the child. Working methodAn essential element of the “Orientierungsstufe” is the intensive cooperation between teachers and parents (regular exchange of information, written information and parents evenings as well as intensive individual counselling about which type of secondary school is the most suitable for each pupil). At the end of the 5th class, pupils get a recommendation for one of the three types of secondary school: “Gymnasium”, “Realschule”, “Hauptschule”. |
