We follow a special concept of social education for young children which is reflected in our project-orientated learning, and includes seasonal and traditional themes, culminating with the celebration of a traditional celebration.
We work in teams and themes are taken from the children's environment and realms of experience and include individual and age-appropriate activity in specific areas. Songs, finger games, fairy tales, and story telling foster linguistic, rhythmical and musical skills and are theme-related, as is handicraft for training fine motor skills (proper handling of scissors, glue, crayons, paints...).
Free play time
Besides aides-relates activity, free play time (indoors as well as aoutdoors) takes an important place. Ideal development in all areas (emotional, cognitive, social, linguistic, and motor skills) can be attained by allowing free play time. It encourages activity and is an important part of self-development. In a group, children soon learn the meaning of cooperation and have to follow rules that they have established themselves. All this serves your child in preparing for school. The voluntary nature of these activities is a major prerequisite for satisfying, motivated, persistent and concentrated learning. It is our belief, that play is for children what work and achievement are for grown-ups. The daily routine in the Villa Kunterbunt is marked by regularly offered activities:
Music - Rhythmical experience
Singing and playing music arouse the children's interest in music and foster understanding of music. The children learn to concentrate, to listen to others, to feel confident about the cadence, measure and tempo. We sing every day in our morning gathering, whilst sitting in a circle, e.g. before leaving kindergarten and at other times of the day.
Wood and metalwork classes

The children work in small groups (8 children at the most) and can choose from one of the following highly popular activities in our well equipped workshop: sawing, nailing, filing, drilling, sanding, screwing...These activities can be done during the free play time.
Arts
Children have the opportunity to put their ideas into practice by using a wide range of materials and techniques. Artistic activities add to the creativity and imagination and help foster fine motor skills, the senses touch and sight, and also concentration. Emphasis is on the development of their manual dexterity with various materials in different areas (drawing, painting, printing, experimenting, doing handicrafts with everyday materials, modelling...). These activities can be done on a daily basis, either during free play time or structured by the teacher.
Library
The kindergarten's own library, which is located in a cosy room on the top floor, is supervised by some of our mothers and invites the children to come look, listen and marvel. Once a week, they can borrow a book, which they can take home in their own "library bag" and bring back a week later. This is how they get to know books, which has an impact on various parts of the development of their personality (taking on responsibility, language, knowledge of environmental concerns) and will accompany them for the rest of their lives. The children learn that a book is something precious and has to be handled carefully. Our library has a wide selection of German and French books as well as audio books, videos and dvds, all of them suitable for their age group.
Gymnastis and "dream"-lessons

The aim of these lessons is to train all the senses, to improve the sense of orientation in a room and to get a feeling for ones own body. The gym lesson, which takes place once a week in our very well equipped gymnasium with homogeneous age groups, always ends with a quiet phase. The children call it the "dream lesson" and it is accompanied by relaxation and silent exercises (meditation).
Swimming
Children have a big need for physical movement. Sufficient and purposeful exercise is good for their body and mental development and swimming is especially suited for this. Girls and boys who reach their 4th birthday by the end of December have a weekly one-hour swimming lesson in the school's swimming pool. The aim is to get them used to water in a playful, enjoyable way, without constraints. In addition, we want them to gain confidence in the water which allows them to stayafloat for a short length of time. Some children have managed to obtain the "seahorse" swimming certificate.
